Quest Guidelines Empty
PostSubject: Quest Guidelines   Quest Guidelines Icon_minitimeWed Jun 13, 2007 11:16 am

General guidelines:

* The quest leader is always in charge --- follow all directions, and do not advance past the quest leader. If you know something about the quest that the quest leader may not, consider using /tell to let them know. Quest leaders who are unclear on some portion of a quest should solicit comments from the group, but they remain in charge unless they designate a new leader.
* When more people wish to go on a quest than there are slots, the quest leader should give priority to those who have not completed the quest, unless otherwise required due to class distribution or needing a higher level to balance out a low level group. Those showing up late or unprepared risk losing their slot.
* The quest leader should make clear who is the puller. Nobody other than the puller should pull. It is the quest leader's decision whether or not a designated puller is needed in a situation.
* The quest leader should make clear who is tanking what. It is the quest leader's decision whether or not designated tank(s) are needed in a situation.
* If there is a designated start time, be on location with all needed supplies and all prereq quests completed before the start time.

Looting:

* There is no looting, mining, or skinning during combat.
* Unless the group is paused for other reasons and you can reach the vein/corpse without moving forward or backward (either of which can risk aggro), there is no mining/skinning without the quest leader's approval. You are there to complete a quest, not to mine and skin.
* If rolling on an item, always check to make sure it is not bind-on-pickup before rolling or blue+. Do not roll on bind-on-pickup or blue+ items that your current character cannot use. If you loot an item that somebody else in the group can use that you can't, please offer it to them, and feel free to let others know when you could use items.
* When the quest leader allows mining or skinning, find out if others in the group will also be mining/skinning and take turns --- do not force the quest leader to establish a mining/skinning order. Let the group know when you need extra time so that you don't get separated.
* Shift-looting is a fine way to loot quickly. However, please be aware of what you're looting and offer it to others that may need it.
* Chests should be looted by the quest leader and distributed to those who can use them. When more than one person might want an item, they should use "/random 100" to roll for the item.

Pets:

* Pets should be set to "passive" at all times. Manually attack using ctrl-1 when appropriate.
* Do not direct a pet to attack until the target has reached the group, reached the tank, or otherwise stopped. Sending a pet out to meet the target risks attracting additional unwanted attention and may prevent the target from hitting a hunter's trap.
* If a warrior is the primary tank, turn off your pet's "taunt" ability unless you temporarily need to off-tank (hold aggro on an add that the primary tank cannot deal with at the moment). Stealing aggro from a warrior prevents rage build-up, which limits their options in controlling aggro.

Crowd control:

* Please be aware of whether there is a mage in the group & let them deal with adds when appropriate. Seeing a mage sheep an add & then have it immediately unsheeped due to an attack is rather frustrating.
* Do not use fear as crowd control in a dungeon except as a last resort. 90% of the time this will result half the dungeon rushing you.

Healing:

* Do not expect to be healed in a significant way until you are at 50% health or below. Big heals are the most mana efficient.
* Keep aggro off your healer at all times. A healer with something bashing on them has to blow a huge chunk of mana on keeping themselves alive.
* If you are a cloth-wearing class and are gaining aggro, back off on your attacks a bit. The amount of damage you take will almost certainly force the healer to use faster but less mana efficient healing spells.
* Healers, let the group know when you are out of mana by announcing "oom" or using "/v oom".
* Healers: don't forget the pets. You can select a pet easily by first selecting its owner with F2-F5, then hitting the same key again.
